About WMJ

Hello!,

I'm Sancie Markavich, the designer and silversmith behind Wild Muse Jewelry Co. I make sterling silver and stone jewelry with boho-vintage style. One-of-a-kind, sterling silver statement jewelry and light weight jewelry with delicate details. Beautiful high grade stones cut and polished by expert lapidaries. Rare treasures from the earth meant to be worn for lifetimes. Keepers of family memories and traditions. Jewelry that says something about you that you wish people to know.

I use high grade stones such as Turquoise, Amber, Jasper, Agate, Carnelian, Buffalo Stone, and so many more. Working with beautiful stones that are tens of millions of years old is humbling and awe-inspiring. Wild Muse Jewelry Co. was named as such because it best describes how I feel about designing and creating jewelry. I'm inspired by the beauty of the wild outside and all the jewelers before me. Making jewelry fills me with a deep sense of tradition and a feeling of connection to artisans who have practiced silversmithing for thousands of years.

I come from a family of artists, musicians and actors- both amateur and professional. My mother was a children's illustrator and my grandfather was a marine painter. From a young age I understood the serious dedication that such a calling requires and would enter their studios feeling as though I'd entered a sacred space. I grew up drawing and creating and surrounded by artist friends of the family. It wasn't unusual for someone to pull out a string instrument and start playing at family parties. Even so, it is has taken me a lifetime to find my craft.

I graduated college with a degree in Studio Arts (painting) and immediately felt lost having no idea how to be an artist. I was deterred by the feeling of filling shoes that were too big. What followed was 10 years of various jobs and lots of moving around seeking change. The next phase of life brought my daughter and, later, my husband and 2 more daughters. And here we are. I currently work as a EMT. I sustained a work injury a while back and while out I discovered a jewelers posting on instagram about their handmade jewelry. And then another and another. I became inspired by their stories and I learned from their jewelry making tips. I am forever grateful for their generosity in sharing their stories and knowledge for without them I would not have thought such a thing was possible.

I think wearing jewelry is a powerful form of self expression. Jewelry can bring confidence and give an impression of who we are when we enter a room. It can be a talisman and bring us luck. It connects us to loved ones and brings comfort. Jewelry can last lifetimes and is the keeper of memories and secrets. Jewelry is joyful!

Thank you for being here,

Be wild and keep musing.. xo, Sancie
